Choose with care勇 alone is courage in general, not battlefield strength. Chinese warns about it constantly - 有勇無謀, brave but no plan, is a standard criticism.
Pairs well with勇氣 for courage as a quality, 英勇 for heroic bravery, 智勇 for courage paired with intelligence. The last is the one older readers admire.
