ㄊㄨˋ

Two versions of the same picture, and both are free with no account and no watermark. The first has no background at all, which is the one to send your artist — but a phone or computer photo viewer set to dark will show black strokes on dark grey and it can look like nothing downloaded. If that happens, use the second one: identical characters on a plain white background. Either way you get the characters on their own — the square and the faint guide lines you see above are not in the file. Each character is 1000px, so a two-character download is 2000×1000, and the script and layout are the ones you picked.

The rabbit: gentle and quick, and above all the creature that lives on the moon.

Before you commit

Choose with care兔崽子 is a real insult, though a mild one aimed at the young. There is also an older reading you should know about: 兔兒爺 and 兔子 were slang for a male prostitute or a gay man. That sense is historical, and in Taiwan it has been reclaimed — 兔兒神, the rabbit god, has a temple in New Taipei and is a protective figure for the LGBTQ+ community. 玉兔 sidesteps all of it and reads as myth.

At small sizes8 strokes, but the final dot is structural — drop it and the character becomes 免, meaning to exempt. Tell your artist.

Cultural noteThe moon rabbit belongs to the Mid-Autumn Festival and to the Chang E story. Chinese readers make the moon connection without being told.

Meaning

Rabbit, hare.

The single character, with a dot at the lower right that is easy to lose.

What to do next

Pick the script and layout you want above, download the PNG, and send that file to your artist. Ask them to work from the file rather than redrawing the character freehand — that is where strokes go missing.
