Choose with care忠 is loyalty to a ruler, a country or a duty far more than to a lover. 忠狗 is a faithful dog. For marital faithfulness a reader expects 忠貞.
Japanese忠 is shared, read chuu, with the same loyalty sense and strong samurai associations.
Cultural note貞 was historically applied to women's chastity and to widows who did not remarry. It carries that baggage and can read badly today.
